A city that was deliberately built
Gandhidham did not grow gradually. It was planned and constructed for Sindhi families displaced at Partition, next to what became Kandla port. Almost everything here traces to a decision to start over, taken by people who had lost the place they came from.
That founding story is still active. Families are often two or three generations from a grandparent who arrived with nothing and rebuilt, and that ancestor is quietly present in every conversation about risk.
Inheriting resilience
The inheritance cuts both ways. It produces genuine commercial courage - these are families who know from evidence that starting again is survivable. It also produces a standard nobody can meet: whatever you are struggling with, someone in your family rebuilt a life from a refugee camp, so what exactly is your excuse.
People rarely say that out loud. It shows up instead as an inability to acknowledge difficulty, which is a poor foundation for actually resolving any.
The work
Giving the current generation permission to have its own problems rather than measuring them against a founding hardship they did not live through. Honouring what was built is not the same as being silenced by it.
