For Bhachau, near the 2001 epicentre, rebuilt physically and now dealing with what rebuilding did not address.

Rebuilt, and then what

Bhachau lies close to the epicentre of the 2001 earthquake and was among the worst affected. The physical reconstruction was substantial and largely successful - new construction, new layout, restored services.

Reconstruction has a defined end. A building is finished. The other consequences have no equivalent completion date, and the completeness of the physical rebuild can make it harder to say that anything remains.

Where it shows up now, decades later

Not usually as an obvious reaction. It surfaces in planning: a reluctance to commit long-term, an instinct to keep options loose, a difficulty investing years in something that could be removed without warning.

People rarely connect that to 2001. It presents simply as being sensible, and it is genuinely difficult to distinguish caution from avoidance from inside.

What the work is and is not

It is not trauma therapy, and I would not offer it as such. If what surfaces is a trauma response, the right professional is a qualified clinician and I will say so rather than continue.

What coaching can do is work on the present-day pattern: the decision deferred, the commitment not made, the plan kept vague so it cannot be taken away.

Sessions

Online, in Gujarati or Kutchi-inflected Gujarati.

Frequently asked questions

Is this counselling?
No. Coaching is forward-looking, and where something clinical surfaces I will refer rather than continue.
