Describing is really very important in the communication of any language. As better we can describe as better we can get the response of description. But whenever we describe we need to describe in such a way that a listener or reader can feel the description.
Here I want to share with you what is description? How many parts of it? What are the different parts of the description? And also the vocabulary for proper description in the English language!
The description is the narrative explanation of any given topic in such a way that it can be easily understood.
It is important to also know that whenever we describe we relate our emotions with the particular description. For example, if we ask this question to 2 different people
Which one is a better job or business?
Both of them will share their own views.
Generally, we describe in total 4 categories:
- THINGS
- PEOPLE
- EVENTS
- ROUTINES
Here I also want to share some important vocabulary with you to describe in a better way.
- Describing self

You can use this vocabulary to describe any person or you can also describe yourself. For example, If I describe myself, I will say
I am a diplomatic person
I am very attentive
I am a trustworthy person…
In the same way, you can describe yourself. Do this exercise and describe yourself in three sentences using this vocabulary.

SQUARE – CONCAVE
CIRCULAR – GEOMETRIC
RECTANGULAR – SYMMETRICAL
OBLONG – POINTY
PYRAMID – TWISTED
SOLID – THREE-DIMENSIONAL
Just look your around and describe objects near you by using this vocabulary.
- COLOURS OF OBJECTS
DARK – FESTIVE
VIBRANT – MONOCHROME
NEON – PALE
BLENDED – BRIGHT
DRAB
Now focus on the different objects which you have for an example: Mobile, car, paint etc and describe colours of the objects.
- SIZE
IDEAL – MAJESTIC
LITTLE – TALL
SHORT – GIGANTIC
FAT – MAMMOTH
LONG – TEENY
SMALL – GREAT
GIANT – MASSIVE
Now describe the size of the objects in the same manner as you have done with colours.

ROUGH – GRAINY
SHARP – CRUNCHY
SILKY – STICKY
CREAMY – JUICY
SMOOTH – CRISPY
Look at the material of your sofa or car sheet covers, you can also check the texture of your clothes and describe the texture of it.
